Hey guys Anthony here from Sigma by Sony at the sony store in La if you’re watching this you’re probably in the market for a new laptop i know that can be an overwhelming decision what with all the different brands different models and different features out there but i’m going to give you some advice that will help you make the right decision for your needs come on let’s check it out so there are three questions you want to ask yourself when you’re looking for a new laptop the first is where am I going to be using it is this live on a desk mostly at home at the office or are you taking it with you the second is what am I going to be using it for you use it for more generalized tasks are you doing more specialized things like video edits and the third is how long am I looking to own it is this something that you want first a year or two or is it a long-term investment now the first category we’re gonna look at here our netbooks these are great because they’re lightweight and their portable but they’re not great main machines ok these are geared for basic portable tasks like cruising the net checking email updating your documents this is a sony vaio y which is sony’s netbook as you can see it’s super lightweight you can bring it everywhere with you there are other ultraportable options that have come up just in the last year to that are really amazing talking about tablets and sony has a couple of those as well let’s take a look at him so tablets are a great option if you don’t need a keyboard all the time and if you’re looking for something a little more entertainment value i mean these are really kind of media consumption devices they’re great for things like watching movies and playing games downloading apps to your phone listening to music stuff like that some tablet consideration here you want to check sizes and weights this is something you’re going to be carrying around all the time and something will be watching a lot of stuff on so you want to be comfortable for you the Sony S has a nine point four inch touchscreen and its own EP has dual 5.5 inch touchscreen the other thing you’re gonna want to look at is the operating system okay so obviously there is apple has their operating system blackberry has a tablet OS sony uses the android operating system on their tablets the other thing you want to look at is 3g or no 3g data so 3g data is the same data that you would have on your cell phone so the upside of that is you have internet everywhere regardless of whether there’s Wi-Fi the downside is the devices are usually a little more expensive and you’re probably gonna need a service plan to use that data just like you would on your phone another thing you want to look at is storage okay you’re gonna be eating a lot of apps a lot of media on these tablets want to make sure you have the room to do so most tablets started 16 gigs Sony’s s comes in a 16 or 32 gig models okay another thing to look at is unique features you know look at the design of the tablet see how it feels to you see how you feel carrying around the the S comes in this kind of nice magazine form factor really balanced for your hand the other thing yes comes with is the PlayStation sweet so you can play a lot of classic PlayStation games right on your tablet you don’t think about your lifestyle and what you’re going to be using it for and what specific features are perfect for you now these are the ultra portable these are great secondary devices these are great on-the-go devices but let’s take a look at a laptop for every day so tablets are great for the limited tasks that are designed for but if you’re looking for an all-around everyday computer here’s the stuff that you’re gonna want to look for [Music] ok Sony’s everyday laptops are the e C & S series they all have the basics you need plus the ability to upgrade if you’re looking for a longer-term investment there are a lot of laptops in the everyday range and they come in a lot of sizes and form factors keep things in mind like screen size if you’re someone who likes to watch a lot of movies on your laptop or overall laptop sighs and battery life if you’re someone who does a lot of traveling Sony’s s-series is a great pick for business travelers so if you’re somebody who does more intensive specialized work let’s take a look at some laptops for you ok so PC gamers and video editors need laptops with more power an example is the sony vaio f-series now this is a bigger laptop with a bigger screen in the 16 inch range even displays full HD or even 3d if you get the bio a 3d version and it comes with a dedicated graphics card to do all of that intense graphics processing that you’re going to do in games and video now the trade-off is it’s a bigger machine right it’s not affordable definitely not for road warriors so a year ago we talked about the difference between a two-hundred-dollar laptop and a two-thousand-dollar laptop well the landscape hasn’t really changed all that much you do sacrifice a lot of features if you go for a cheaper price point but there are premium laptops with a person who wants it all so if you’re willing to invest more in the future proofing and you don’t want to make any trade-offs then you’re gonna want to go with a premium laptop now these are the computers with everything they come with a higher price tag but there are definitely some good reasons for that one example is the sony z series right here where this is just as light and size and weight as a lot of the other laptops that we saw but it also has that fast processor and all that storage space and the great graphics capabilities of the higher-end laptops that we saw all-in-one package so as you can see there are a lot of choices but with just a few easy questions you can really narrow down your options and get the computer that’s best suited to your needs now as always we recommend you to your online research before you buy anything cnet notebook review are a couple good sites to check you might also want to read some reviews on brand sites to you know Sony site features customer reviews for every product and if you’re a gamer be sure to visit futuremark you can search for any game you want to play and i’ll give you the specs you need to do it hopefully we gave you some helpful information remember if you want to know more everything Sony makes register.com / signal or youtube.com slash signal where you can watch all our videos and leave your comments and questions analysis Anthony signing off.
